I often get calls from clients seeking advice and sharing their hair extension
experiences. I hope the following information will help you make an educated,
responsible decision when choosing a "Hair Extension Artist". My goals:
help you find a talented professional, get great looking hair, and enjoy your
experience.
1. You and your stylist should be able to communicate. Is she
patient? Does he listen well? Can she answer your hair addition questions? Do
you actually speak the same language? It's absolutely essential here. You may
think this is obvious, but it's not always the case. After receiving a few desperate
phone calls, I thought I'd better mention it.

2. Most extension artists will offer a one-time free consultation.
This service should be done well in advance with all of your options thoroughly
discussed. Expenses and maintenance must be explained before you part with your
hard-earned cash.
3. Real professionals keep detailed records on each of their clients. You should fill out a questionnaire regarding your health, hobbies, normal hair routine, etc. In addition to contact information, it will help the stylist determine if this service is actually in your best interest.
4. The consultation should involve a scalp and hair analysis. Monkey Barrz
has great, proven results on many hair textures and conditions. If your stylist
has concerns about doing "fusion" on you, they may recommend a "test-run".
Installing only a few individuals for a trial period will help determine if your
hair can sustain them. This is a "better safe than sorry" measure and
should be taken if recommended. In some rare cases, the artist may refuse to do
the service altogether. Maybe they've determined your hair simply isn't suitable
and could be unduly damaged. These are signs of a true professional, not someone
who simply wants your money NOW.

5. The estimated cost should be determined by your present
look and the proposed end result. Your "hair extension budget" may be
a large factor in that decision. How long is your natural hair? How long to you
want it? Is it one color or do you want highlights? What other chemical services
do you need? Will it take a lot of extensions or just a few to create you new
look? The list goes on and you should have it in writing. Take note: If you change
your mind on the "end result", it'll probably change the price.

6. You should also be given a written maintenance plan. This
will help in getting used to "the new you". The plan should recommend
products, grooming tools, and most definitely your follow-up appointment.

7. Since extensions take more time, planning and preparation
than other services, you may need to sign an appointment contract secured by a
deposit. You may also have to prepay for your hair. This has become an industry
standard as there's more and more demand for these artists. This is different
than a salon demanding long-term contracts and asking for monthly payments on
a "maintenance plan".

8. Ask to see pictures of their work. Photographs can reveal
a lot about their talent. Ask your stylist if they have clients who are willing
to share their "extension experience" with you. Clients who love their
hair and their artist are usually very happy to advertise it.

9. Finally, the person you're about to trust with your hair
should be a professional who only uses professional products. Monkey Barrz
is sold only to licensed hairdressers, so if you're asked to go out and get your
own glue...RUN. All products in the Monkey Barrz System are designed to
work together, from installation to removal. Whichever extension or hair bonding
system is your stylist's preference, make sure they're using a "system".
These are just some basic guidelines. If there's any way I can help, feel
free to contact me. If you already have a hairdresser you can't live without. . . have
them check out this web site. Hopefully I can help them get started as a Monkey Barrz Hair Extension Artist.
